About us

Pregnant and child-bearing women are the target clientele of ASAC – Area drug Abuse Council – Heart of Iowa, a residential drug abuse disorder treatment facility in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. With this special facility, moms with drug use disorders may live with their kids while getting thorough, individualized therapy for their problems. Without separating them from their kids, the facility offers a secure and encouraging setting for mothers to concentrate on their rehabilitation.

Heart of Iowa usually accepts women for stays of 60 to 90 days, while exact lengths depend on each patient’s requirements. With the inclusion of mental health services, life skills training, and group and individual therapy, the program provides a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation. Additionally, women get instruction in topics including parenting techniques, finance, nutrition, and independent living skills. The facility offers school-age children licensed on-site childcare and programming, freeing up moms to concentrate on their recovery while their kids finish school or attend daycare services.

Heart of Iowa’s residential setting offers family-friendly apartments with two and three bedrooms that provide moms and kids with a stable and comfortable home environment. Women go through initial physical examinations for both themselves and their children while undergoing therapy, to make sure that their physical well-being is taken care of in addition to their emotional and psychological healing.

Heart of Iowa by ASAC is committed to providing services to all women, regardless of their ability to pay. No woman is refused treatment because she is unable to pay; instead, fees are set on a sliding scale according on the size and income of the family. Insurance is accepted by the program, and Title 19 pays for healthcare services, guaranteeing that access to essential treatment is not hampered by financial constraints.

Women who live in Iowa, are pregnant or have children (birth to age 18), and struggle with chronic drug abuse are required to be eligible for the program. Admission requires both an insurance pre-authorization and an evaluation by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). In order to be eligible for the program, women must also be dedicated to taking part in the planning of their therapy and making progress toward life objectives that support long-term recovery.

Since 1962, ASAC, a private nonprofit organization, has offered comprehensive services for the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of drug use disorders and problem gambling disorders. Serving Linn, Benton, Jones, Jackson, Clinton, Dubuque, and Delaware counties, but accepting members from all around Iowa, ASAC is run by a volunteer Board of Directors. Their offerings span the whole spectrum of care, beginning with prevention and progressing through different stages of therapy and assistance with recovery.
